Anna-Rosja Haveman
Anna-Rosja Haveman researches ecocritical art, terraqeous landscapes through the lens of materials, collaborative practices.
Anna-Rosja Haveman is assistant professor of modern and contemporary art. I approach art history as a discipline that contributes to interdisciplinary exchange and offers solutions to complex societal challenges through object-based thinking. My dissertation “Reimagining the Terraqueous: Ecocritical Art and its Perspectives on the Dutch Coast” foregrounds the ecocritical and creative engagement of contemporary artists with the coast from the 1970s until today (Haveman 0000). Anna-Rosja is currently working on a paper about trees in land art and how they foster or neglect ecological literacy.
In addition to my work at the university Anna-Rosja brings research into practice as a curator. In 2025 she curated the transhistorical exhibition “De Kleuren van het Wad.” I am interested in the role art can play in the perception of landscape: IMAGE-ination is linked to what you value about a place and how you interact with it. For this exhibition we approached creativity as something that is not solely reserved for professional artists, but as a powerful tool for bringing residents of the region together. That is why several works in the exhibition were created through participation and co-creation. Visitors contributed to this exhibition by painting and by making natural Wadden ink.
Within the JUST ART project, she will research how artist residencies can contribute to climate justice for the sub-project “Co-Creation on Location.”
