Romy Day Winkel
Romy Day Winkel does artistic research into textile histories of the Netherlands and its contemporary artist reactivations.
Romy Day Winkel works as an artist, writer, and researcher based in Amsterdam. Her current PhD research—part of the JUST MATTER research theme—focuses on contemporary artists reactivating historical flax-to-linen, hemp, and wool practices in the Netherlands, and studying how that collaboration can inform climate-just textile futures. Recent publications include a reflection on the prominence of linen in contemporary art practices (Winkel 2026).
